The Superhero Project uses creative thinking and the arts to empower youth with complex medical needs, disabilities and serious illnesses. We interview youth and their families to discover who they are beyond their diagnosis and how they are making a positive difference in the world.

Each child is matched with a member of our League of Extraordinary Artists, who designs the superhero alter ego they describe, creating visual representations of the strength, courage and resilience of the children.

The strengths-based interviews offer families the opportunity to reflect on their children's best qualities and the final posters are a source of pride and a social-emotional intervention tool, increasing self-confidence, fostering resilience, building community and inspiring hope. Over 1350 families from Northeast Ohio and beyond have participated since 2017.
