The Superhero Project uses art as a tool for healing and empowers youth with disabilities, illnesses, and complex mental health, developmental, and medical needs. We interview kids, teens and their families to discover who they are beyond their diagnosis and how they want to make a positive difference in the world. Each child is matched with an artist who designs the heroic alter ego they describe, based on their ideas and photos - the posters are visual representations of their strength, courage and creativity. Parents report that participation increases self-confidence, fosters resilience, builds feelings of connection and community, and inspires hope. Over 1900 youth already have been part of this social-emotional intervention and the posters are treasured by families around the world.
