Employing Writers With Disabilities -- A Best Practices Guide

The resources and information in the Milestones Autism Resources Center are meant to be a reference, and should not be considered comprehensive or an endorsement or recommendation of any providers, methodologies or services from any of the groups, agencies or companies listed. We urge you to make independent judgment when selecting a professional to assist you. We provide guiding questions to help you think through what is right for your situation.

Written by Deborah Calla and Allen Rucker - members of the WGA Writers with Disabilities Committee, Chairs of the Media Access Awards.

Much has been said and done on the topic of diversity and inclusion in media. But somehow people with disabilities are often left out of the conversation, even though they make up the largest minority in the country. This guide aims to be a catalyst for change by taking employers step by step through the interviewing process all the way to the writers room and set while offering suggestions on how to create more diversity in front and behind the camera.

This short guide reviews best practices for working with disabled talent in the television and movie industry.
