The parent mentor supports the families of children with disabilities or learning differences throughout the district in a number of ways. Sometimes that's helping them navigate the special education system, figure out a next step, or find a good resource for themselves or their child. Sometimes that's helping them read through and understand paperwork.

The mentor often talks with parents before or goes with them to various meetings to help ensure that they feel heard and like they're appropriately advocating for their children. In short, the parent mentor bridges gaps wherever they might occur so that complex and sometimes overwhelming situations seem a little easier.
