The Parent Mentor for Dublin City Schools helps families who have children with disabilities at no cost. There are several reasons that a family may seek out a Parent Mentor. The first one is that a Parent Mentor can help the parents understand their rights and responsibilities in regards to navigating the special education process at their school. They can even attend ETR, IEP and 504 Plan meetings as a support to the family. A Parent Mentor can help parents to understand their child's disability and what community resources might be beneficial to the family. Most Parent Mentors also host trainings during the school year on a wide variety of topics that may be of interests to the families in their school district. Finally, a Parent Mentor is a parent of a child with special needs and therefore, can often be a sounding board for a parent who wants to connect with someone who "gets it."
