Announcing the 2023-24 SPED Talk Series - Resources and conversation about special education
Join hosts Hickman Lowder special education attorney Janet F. Griffith and advocate Mary Jo O'Neill for a monthly webinar series that explores resources, sparks conversation, and empowers you with the tools and knowledge needed to advocate for your child at school.
This webinar's description:
This fall, Ohio’s new dyslexia law went into effect. School districts must screen all students for dyslexia in grades K-3 and, upon request by a parent, screen students in grades 4-6. Students begin learning to read in kindergarten. By 4th and 5th grade, students shift from learning to read to reading to learn. Every student learns to read at their own pace which makes it difficult for parents to discern when their student is struggling and needs additional support.
During this presentation, we will discuss Ohio’s Dyslexia Law, how to recognize a struggling reader, and the various available supports for reading both in and out of school.
