Recommendations for Autistic Attendees Navigating the Milestones Conference

Welcome to the 2022 Virtual Milestones National Autism Conference! Thank you for attending. Here are some tips to enrich your conference experience.

1) Deciding What to Attend

Review the list of suggested sessions below. We have many sessions to choose from this year, but we asked self-advocates to select some of their top picks for suggested viewing. Because the Milestones Virtual Conference is on-demand, you can view any of the sessions on their live airdate or you can watch them later since they will be available until August 15th, 2022.

2) Attend Networking Opportunities and Live Sessions for the Full Conference Experience

Although sessions are available on-demand, the live chat will only be available during the initial airing of the presentations. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and share your own experiences with the speaker and other conference attendees.

We will also have Autistic Individuals networking activities on both days! As well as other networking opportunities.  More information aboutconnecting to all networking options is coming soon!

  • Day 1: You will be able to talk about your special interests and hobbies during this live and interactive group.
  • Day 2: During this second live and interactive discussion group, we will be talking about "disclosure" and sharing your diagnosis or explaining your needs in different settings, as well as how to better understand your own "Brain Story".

3) Take Breaks

Taking a break in between sessions can help you feel refreshed. Use time between sessions to make a snack, visit our Slow TV channel, visit with exhibitors sharing about services that might benefit you in our Expo Hall or check out the Milestones Art Exhibit – we will have a different exhibit each day of the conference.

4) Share Your Experiences

Post on social media or email the Milestones team to share your feedback. Milestones values the support we receive from the autism self-advocate community and use your feedback to grow our conference and services in a way that reflects the topics and issues important to self-advocates. Feedback can be emailed to conference@milestones.org

5) Learn how to use our Conference Platform

You will gain access to our conference platform a few days before the conference begins so you can be comfortable with finding your way around virtually. We will be posting videos to teach you how to navigate the platform, see the different kinds of sessions available, and how to explore the Expo Hall, the Art Shows and the Networking areas.

6) How to Use Closed Captions in Conference Sessions

Many of our sessions will have a closed caption feature. We will be posting a link to instructions on how to access that feature soon.

If you need help with the platform, finding CEUs, or other support, you can also email conference@milestones.org or call (216) 464-7600 ext. 200
